Rust Grid on Pale Blue Canvas Print

Against terracotta, the rust brown reads less sweet, more deliberate. It is a warm, mineral colour with a chalky edge, and the pale blue underneath keeps it from turning heavy. Hung up, a flat wall gains structure without noise: the grid gives the eye something to hold, while the dry-brushed patches keep it relaxed. It works above a sofa, a low sideboard or a desk, and holds its own on a landing or in a wide hallway. Pair it with bouclé, aged leather, dark wood and simple stoneware. Skip busy patterned wallpaper behind it, and don't crowd it with other strong-colour abstracts — this one wants space either side.
