Too much beige. Not enough olive green. This fixes that. The pike runs long and low across the wall, so a flat stretch of plain paint suddenly has a line to follow and something to look at. Hang it above a sideboard, along a hallway, or in a study where people pass close enough to see the speckled markings and the old hand-lettered caption. It sits happily with dark wood, aged leather, painted panelling, wool checks and stoneware. Keep the wall colour quiet — chalky off-white, soft grey or muted green. Don't crowd it with loud colour or busy pattern directly beside it; the aged paper tone does the work when there's space around it. As a canvas the soft edges read gently and the surface stays matt under lamplight.
